None other than the European Marathon Champion Koen Naert will appear at the start of the Brussels Airport Marathon, together with 12,000 other runners, on Sunday 6th October. Naert has opted to take part in the half marathon with a view to participating in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. It is still possible to register.
It will be a first for Naert to participate in the Brussels Airport Marathon, the man from Bruges is already looking forward to his race through Brussels. "I have heard so many good things about the course from other athletes. It will be the first time that I appear at the start and am really looking forward to it. After all, it is always fun to run in your own country", says Naert who is already fully focussed on the Tokyo Olympics.
A full marathon does not fit in with the training schedule of the European Champion, but a half marathon fits in perfectly with his preparations. British runner Nick Earl has also confirmed he will be participating in the half marathon. Earl's personal record for the half marathon is 1:04:31 and as such he will be a serious competitor of Naert's.
